What is an Adventure Dive?

The Adventure Dive  -  This is what each of the dives in the Adventure Diver or Advanced Open Water Diver Certification is called.  You can use each dive toward the Adventure Diver Certification,  the Advanced Open Water Diver Certification or the first dive of the corresponding specialty.  All dives are not available at all dive locations.  For example, Texas lakes generally do not have a current present, so you could not do the Drift Adventure Dive.

An Adventure Dive is any dive taken from the dives listed for the Adventures in Diving Program - Either the Adventure Diver Certification (a three dive certification) or the Advanced Open Water Diver (a five dive certification) course.   Click here for a list of the Adventure Dives

One Instructor at One Location or Different Instructors at Different Location.  You can complete adventure dives in many locations with different instructors or you can complete adventure dives in one location with one instructor.

For the Adventure Diver Certification, the instructor completing the third or final  dive with the students is the certifying instructor.  To sign off on the certification, an instructor must verify that you have completed all the dives by looking at your log book or looking at your adventure dive training sheets.

For the Advanced Open Water Certification, the instructor completing the fifth or final dive with the student is the certifying instructor.  To sign off on the certification, an instructor must verify that you have completed all the dives by looking at your log book or looking at your adventure dive training sheets.

Why would you want to do an Adventure Dive?

  • You dive the dive

  • The instructor debriefs the dive
