This is a description of what to expect when you are taking the
Open Water Diver Class from us. After you have
read the below information, if you have questions,
concerns or need additional information, please feel
free and do not hesitate to
214-505-0713 or
Email us
for information.
Classroom:
-
We will go over the knowledge reviews for each of
Chapters 1-5 -
You will take a 10 question quiz after
each of Chapters 1 - 4 -
We will review missed questions in knowledge review and quiz -
You will take a 50 question exam
after completion of Chapter 5
-
We will review any missed questions on final exam -
You will need to turn in the completed knowledge
reviews at the end of the classroom sessions.
If you want to keep your knowledge reviews for future
reference, you can make a copy of the knowledge
reviews and give us an originally signed and dated
copy.
-
How long does the
classroom take: If a student has read the entire manual, completed
the knowledge reviews located at the end of each
chapter and watched the entire video or DVD prior to
coming to class, the classroom portion can be
completed in two classroom meetings of three to four
hours each in length.
The pace of the class depends upon the students.
Classes are performance based. That means
that a student has to complete and master one section
before moving onto the next section.
In the event a student does not
master the materials, we will schedule
additional classroom sessions as needed for a student
to master the materials at no extra cost to the
student.
A word about Group
Classes: Since a group class is intended for more
than one student, if a student has signed up for a
group class but comes to class and has not
read the manual, completed the knowledge reviews and
watched the video or DVD prior to coming to class, the student
may need to reschedule the class and/or additional
fees may be incurred.
Pool Sessions - This is where you learn the
water skills needed to complete your Open Water Diver
Certification.
Click here for information on the confined water pool
dives:
Lake Dives - To complete your open
water diver certification, you will do 4 Open Water Dives at an area lake or
scuba park (perhaps the ocean while on vacation). Click
here for information about the Open Water Lake Dives.
Our scuba park of choice is Athens Scuba Park located in
Athens, Texas - about an 1-1/2 hour drive from Dallas.
-
Four Dives: The skills you learned in the pool are divided
among 4 open water dives with the first dive being a dive for pleasure so that you can get used to being in the lake and work on your buoyancy. -
The four dives are conducted at area lakes or scuba parks
(or perhaps the ocean while on vacation); -
We are allowed to do a
maximum of 3 training dives in one day; -
Therefore, the 4 dives
must be done over a 2-day period at an area lake or scuba park.
-
Lake weekends:
Pace of Lake Weekends is dependent upon a lot of
things i.e., the weather, air temperature, water
temperature, people, scheduling, etc. We
ask that students get to the lake around 9:00 a.m. on
each day of your training dives. We usually
start the briefing for the first dive of the day at
10:00 a.m. You should be finished by 3:00 p.m.
(or before) each day.
-
The pace of the open
water dives depends upon the students.
Classes are performance based. That means
that a student has to complete all of the skills in
each dive before moving onto the skills in the next
dive. In the event a student is not able to
complete all of the skills in a dive, we will discuss
all available options with the student for completion
of the dives needed to complete the Open Water
Diver Certification.
-
A word about Group
Classes: Since a group class is intended for more
than one student, if a student has signed up for a
group class but finds that a one-on-one with an
instructor is best for that student, additional fees
may or may not be incurred because the class then
becomes a private one-on-one class rather than a group
class (any additional fees will be decided on a case
by case basis).
Please feel free and do not hesitate to
contact us if you have questions, concerns or need
additional information.
