Equipment:  Course fees do not cover equipment rental.

How long does it take?  Approximately 25 hours.  This includes the independent study time.  If you have read the entire book, completed the knowledge reviews located at the end of each chapter and watched the entire video prior to coming to class, the  classroom session is approximately 2 to 3 hours, the pool session is 2 to 3 hours and one day at the lake for the 4 open water scenarios.  In addition, prior to Knowledge Development Number 2, the student must be currently certified in CPR and First Aid.   However, the course is performance based which means that we must complete one section before moving the next.  If needed, we will schedule additional class/pool sessions (additional costs may apply).

Class Assignment:  You need to read the whole book, complete the knowledge reviews located at the end of each chapter and watch the entire video prior to first class meeting.

What you will do in the Classroom:  In the classroom, we will go over the knowledge reviews located at the end of each of the 5 chapters.   Student will also prepare an emergency assistance plan for the location where the rescue scenarios will be conducted.   A 50 question final exam will be administered.

What you will do in the pool:  In the pool, we will introduce 10 rescue exercises during the training sessions and various techniques to students.  Then students get to practice the different techniques.  During the practice sessions, students will discover which techniques work better for them in different situations.  The Rescue Diver Course philosophy is that there is no single "right" way to perform a rescue, but rather many workable options.  The confined water pool sessions give students the opportunity to try different options.

What you will do at the Lake:  At the lake, if all 10 of the rescue exercises are completed in the confined water pool sessions, then the 4 rescue scenarios may be completed in one day at the lake.  The scenarios are realistic giving students the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom and in the pool in a realistic context, providing additional learning.   The end result is a rewarding and fun experience building confidence.

What will you learn:     Rescue Diver training will prepare you to prevent problems and, if necessary, manage dive emergencies. During the classroom, pool and the four open water sessions, you'll cover:

  • Self-rescue and diver stress
  • AED and emergency oxygen delivery systems
  • dive first aid
  • swimming and non-swimming rescue techniques
  • emergency management and equipment
  • panicked diver response
  • underwater problems
  • missing diver procedures
  • surfacing the unconscious diver
  • in-water rescue breathing protocols
  • egress (exits)
  • first aid procedures for pressure related accidents
  • dive accident scenarios
