Wreck Diver Specialty (a 4 dive specialty)

Counts toward the Master Scuba Diver Certification

Price with Materials - $145 includes manual, picture for certification card, certification card and 4 dives under instructor supervision.  Recommended:  video/DVD, ($23.96)

What do you need to start?  Must be at least 15 years old and certified as a Junior Adventure Diver.

Why take the Wreck Diver Specialty?  The lure of exploring sunken vessels, airplanes and automobiles is something most divers can't resist. The Wreck Diver Specialty course introduces you to wreck diving and helps you develop the skills and knowledge necessary for safe and fun wreck diving.

What you will do:  Read the Wreck Diver Specialty Manual and completed Knowledge Reviews Parts I and II.  You will learn about the planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of wreck diving; the preparation and use of lights, air supplies, special equipment, penetration lines and reels; and limited-visibility diving techniques and emergency procedures.   You will use your new knowledge during the 4 dives done under the supervision of an instructor.  Click here for information about the dives.

Materials needed:  Wreck Diver Specialty Manual (included in course price).  Recommended:  Video/DVD.

Independent Study:  Read the entire Wreck Diver Specialty manual and complete the Knowledge Reviews Parts I and II.   Recommended:  watch the entire video/dvd.  The knowledge reviews will need to be turned in prior to certification.

How to Get Started:  Call us at 214-505-0713 or click here to email us.     You can come buy to pick up the materials or we can have them delivered to your home or office.

Class Dates:  Dives can be done on any lake weekend and most trips but not available at all local dive sites.   click here for our training calendar

Information about the dives:

Dive One:

  • Instructor or certified assistant leads, using navigation techniques appropriate to wreck chosen.

  • Students control their buoyancy and remain neutrally buoyant.  Students avoid silting problems through buoyancy and fin control.  Watch for wreck and aquatic life hazards.

  • Return to ascent point without surfacing.

Dive Two:

  • Explore wreck,

  •  map wreck (or portion of wreck depending on size),

  • penetration assessment – locating potential entry

  • return to ascent point without surfacing

Dive Three:

  • Deploy penetration line on the outside of the wreck

  • ·         Swim along the penetration line while holding on to a dive light and moving in such a manner as not to kick up silt

    ·         Retrieve penetration line from the outside of the wreck

    ·         Navigate to ascent point

    ·         Practice deploying, following and retrieving penetration line at the surface

Dive Four – Instructor discretion on whether or not to penetrate wreck.  For penetration dive, it’s Dive A, for non-penetration dive it’s Dive B.  One or the other not both.

Dive A – Penetration dive – Students must be accompanied by the instructor

Dive B – non-penetration dive

  • Students plan dive independent

  • Students should plan to return to the ascent point without surfacing

  • Instructor accompanies students on their planned div

  • Students navigate on the wreck so class reaches the ascent point without surfacing.
